XAGAR (Sh. M. Network)-Somali armed forces backing by the Kenyan military have clashed with Al shabab militants in the southern city ofAfmadow, forcing many locals to flee their houses, reports said.
The fighting, which raged on for several hours, took place in a village located on the outskirts of Afmadow that controlled by the allied forces. No deaths or injures reported in the combat.
Witnesses said, the battle erupted when Somali and Kenyan army have launched an attack against Al shabab-held Hagar and Magar villages near Afmadow town, to bring to a standstill a military mobilization by Al shabab fighters in the area.
The situation has reportedly returned to calm soon after the violence subsided and the Somali and Kenyan forces successfully ended their operations, according to sources.
Neither Al shabab nor Somali government has commented on the attack.
